Home Depot issued a warning it may have to increase prices to deal with the cost of tariffs on imports.

The largest home improvement company in the U.S. made the statement during its most recent earnings call, stating price increases may happen on specific product categories and not impact everything the retailer sells, according to a New York Post report.

"There will be some modest price movement for some categories," CFO Richard McPhail told the Wall Street Journal, according to the Post report.

Approximately 50% of Home Depot items come from U.S. suppliers.

The news is a total reversal of what Home Depot stated in the spring regarding the changing tariff policies.

In May the company said it wouldn't be raising prices due to tariffs. At the time McPhail told CNBC that "because of our scale, the great partnerships we have with our suppliers and productivity that we continue to drive in our business, we intend to generally maintain our current pricing levels across our portfolio."

Home Depot and Lowe's maintained their ranking as home improvement category leaders in the Numerator Home Improvement Tracker report, released in early August, attaining 28% and 18% share of consumer spend respectively.
