An Australia-based airline plans to implement a charge for using overhead luggage space.

Jetstar is the first airline in the country that will make travelers pay for carry-on luggage that doesn't fit underneath a seat, according to a New York Times report.

Currently the airline, owned by Qantas, allows carry on luggage weighing just over 15 pounds. That weight will increase to 22 pounds starting in February 2027.

Passengers with bags weighing more than the 22 pounds will have to pay just under $20 on each flight of travel.
