Lowe's is donating $250,000 to the American Red Cross, which is working closely with the West Virginia Division of Homeland Security to help in aid efforts related to severe flooding.
Two dozen citizens were killed in floods that swept through the state, and over 1,200 homes were damaged. The Red Cross has opened shelters throughout West Virginia, sent in 700 volunteers, and offered over 130,000 food items to those affected.
"Our hearts and thoughts are with all of the residents, including Lowe's employees, who've been affected by the widespread flooding. As families begin the difficult recovery process, we'll continue to partner with the Red Cross and do everything we can to help these communities begin to rebuild," said James Frison, Lowe's director of community relations, in a release.
Lowe's Heroes employee volunteers are responsible for shipping in over 30 truckloads of cleanup supplies to Clarksburg and Charleston.
All 18 store locations in West Virginia have activated the American Red Cross customer donation program, allowing customers to donate.
