Mystery Santas deliver random retail acts of kindness

It’s a story that would warm even the Grinch’s cold heart.

December 21, 2015

It’s a story that would warm even the Grinch’s cold heart.

Walmart shoppers in three different states are getting their holiday layaway stash paid for by secret Santas and so far the jolly anonymous gift givers have paid for nearly half a million dollars in merchandise that will be piled under a tree come this Friday.

Walmart patrons in Florida, Ohio and Pennsylvania have discovered that balances owned on holiday goodies were paid off in full, according to a CNBCreport. The unknown donors include ‘Santa B’ who wiped the price tag clean at Pennsylvania locations to the tune of $158,000.

And in a move that may actually melt the Grinch’s heart, sometimes the recipients decide to pay the kindness forward and take what they owed on their layaway tab to pay for someone else’s.

"We're proud to be a small part of these random acts of kindness," Walmart said in a statement, according to CNBC.
