InVue has designed a new retail display case lock to help prevent theft. The IR2 Key featuring PowerTouch technology assigns a unique-to-store code that times out after 12 hours. Each associate carries his own key and can service customers seamlessly, according to a company press release.
Cabinet locks retrofit in minutes with no tools or drilling, while transforming both merchandise sales and security. A touch of the rechargeable, programmable IR2 key powers the lock mechanism, so no batteries are required in the lock, Greg Schultz, product manager for InVue, said in the release.
"Never again will a lost key or broken lock hinder a sale, frustrate a consumer or present a security threat to merchandise locked in a cabinet or display case," he said.
Each lock includes an E Ink Lock Status Indicator to show when it's secure. The lock and strike plate design prevents spreading of the gap between sliding glass panels. Three models — Universal Lock, Plunger Lock and Cam Lock — assure compatibility with nearly any existing display cases. Also, the charging station can charge up to four keys at once, prevents overcharging and automatically deactivates each key for added security.
"It's one thing to secure valuable merchandise in a locked cabinet. It's another thing to sell it effectively," said Jim Sankey, InVue president and CEO. "Missing keys and broken locks result in millions of dollars in lost sales every year. Our Cabinet Lock has been extensively field-tested at retail and everybody who used it — from associates to managers to consumers — were thrilled with its ease of use and positive impact on service and the customers' shopping experience."
