Newegg expands premiere membership sharing

Now four family members can share a Newegg membership and businesses can share memberships with employees.

August 20, 2015

In what could well be a "this-is--how-you-do-it" move to competitor Amazon, Newegg is expanding its premiere member benefits and releasing the news in clear fashion so consumers know what’s taking place.

As Retail Customer Experience reported in a blog a few weeks back, Amazon quietly scaled back on a Prime membership feature that allowed four family members to share the membership. It did so with no formal press release or announcement, and despite repeated requests Amazon would not comment to RCE regarding why it had not communicated the change to Prime members either through direct emails or a formal media announcement.

Newegg’s news, in a releaseissued this week, reports all its Premier members can extend their membership benefits to up to four of their friends or family members.

"Since Newegg Premier’s debut in 2014, we’ve seen great enthusiasm from our customers who enjoy the added benefits of membership," said James Wu, CEO North America at Newegg, in the release.

In June, Newegg Business announced a new loyalty program, called Newegg Business Rewards, for business customers that allows business owners to provide complimentary Premier membership to employees. It is also now offering student pricing for Premier, discounting student membership by $20.

Standard pricing for Newegg Premier is $49.99 per year, with three and six- month memberships available for $19.99 and $29.99, respectively.
