Search titan puts flagship retail strategy on hold though it has already leased a $6 million space.

Search titan Google won’t be joining the ranks of Microsoft and Apple in New York City, at least not just yet, as reports claim it is shelving plans to open its first-ever retail location in the Big Apple.
Earlier reports this year claimed Google was eyeing Manhattan as the location for its retail store debut but a VentureBeat report, sourcing Crain's, says those plans are now on hold. Supposedly the store would be highlighting Google's latest mobile computing devices, including Chromebooks and its revamped Nexus smartphone, running on its Android OS.
Microsoft just debuted its first New York City retail flagship location, as Retail Customer Experience reported in late October.
Google’s retail foray may just be experiencing a temporary set-back as VentureBeat claims it's already leased a $6 million 5,442-square-foot location in SoHo where neighboring retailers include Tiffany and Louis Vuitton.
