Omnivor, which creates 3D holographic content, has launched two products, Holograms for Retail and Live Hologrphci Telepresence, with initial support from Nike. The products aim to overhaul virtual commerce by enhancing the interactive buying experience, according to a press release.
Omnivor will soon offer live holograms as a form of communication running on the T-Mobile 5G network.
According to IBM's U.S. Retail Index, the pandemic has accelerated the shift away from physical stores to digital shopping by five years.
"The COVID-19 pandemic has expedited an overwhelming consumer preference shift toward digital options. While many of these traditional behaviors may return, many of the developments made today will be with us forever," Adam Kirk, Omnivor CEO and founder, said in the release. "Omnivor's technology offers companies and consumers alike a personalized, interactive and lifelike experience — all from the comfort of home."
Nike is tapping into Omnivor's Holograms for Retail, providing home bound shoppers the opportunity to better understand how products fit. The Nike Virtual View feature at Finish Line and JD Sport lets shoppers select a hologram that matches their size and body type, effectively building a virtual dressing room in shoppers' living rooms.
Omnivor is a graduate of the 5G Open Innovation Lab co-founded by T-Mobile. Launched in 2016, it is a spinoff of Kernel Labs, a Seattle-based startup studio. To date, Omnivor has raised more than $2.5 million in funding from angel investors and institutional firms.
