In partnership with Gentilhomme, the primary contractor, along with RealMotion and Smart Monkeys Inc., Orlando airport's Terminal C has unveiled a 360-degree interactive installation as part of its Experiential Media Environment (which was developed in partnership with Sardi Design), according to a press release. As reported by Digital Signage Today, Terminal C has already leaned heavily into its digital-centric customer experience. Digital Signage Today reached out to Gentilhomme for a quote about this installation.

"Gentilhomme shapes experiences in public spaces that provide a sense of identity by creating and producing beacons of collective entertainment," Thibaut Duverneix, founder and CEO at Gentilhomme and executive creative director for this project, said via email. "Our work in airports entertains and comforts travelers of all ages and is an amusing gateway into local culture and histories. For Orlando International Airport's brand new Terminal C, Gentilhomme was mandated to create, design, produce and integrate large-scale multimedia content for monumental media features. If you travel through Orlando International in Terminal C, you'll see 70 unique video segments integrated into massive architecturally-scaled media features, where we used advanced CGI techniques, machine learning and immersive underwater filmmaking. The project pushed the boundaries of interactive technology through the use of 3D motion tracking that renders in real-time, using the most powerful 3D game tool, Unreal Engine. We're experiencing an increase in demand for large-scale technological installations in transport hub environments. Our goal is to mesmerize passengers of all demographics in unexpected ways, transforming traditional signage in public spaces into a conduit for storytelling."

After winning the contract from the Greater Orlando Airport Authority, Gentilhomme developed the project from start to finish, hiring Realmotion and Smart Monkeys to assist with technical aspects of the installation. The 360-degree installation is called The Moment Vault, and utilizes AI and markerless motion-capture software to create an immersive experience for viewers, using content on three curved, 2mm LED displays that form a circle, also leaning into metaverse, social media and mobile interactivity by encouraging selfie use by up to 25 users per session.

"The Moment Vault reflects Orlando International Airport's established air, water and sky aesthetic and provides an exciting new opportunity for visitors to create lasting travel memories and form positive associations with the airport and the city of Orlando," Alexandre Simionescu, founder and project lead at Realmotion, said in the release. "The immersive real-time experience is made possible through Realmotion's latest G32 real-time media servers and Fusion tracking technology that instantly converts a subject's motion into digital wireframes that are integrated into the onscreen content produced by creative studio Gentilhomme, providing delightful selfie-ready moments."

Feeding live data to Realmotion servers, the system uses Unreal Engine to process data and provides support for ISAAC, Unity, Notch, TouchDesigner and Realmotion Flow to provide content creators a variety of options for real time creation, while the exterior of the installation features 4mm DVLED displays to engage passengers who opt out of entering The Moment Vault.

"This project is a crowd pleaser, and that is its intent," Simionescu added. "More and more organizations are looking to create novel technological experiences for customers and guests, and they often require significant research and development, including software design and new combinations of hardware. At Realmotion, we are building on the success of our tools by turning the best of them into productized solutions that can be deployed industry-wide with greater speed and affordability, as we are planning to do with our G32 and Fusion servers that helped bring The Moment Vault to life."
