Outdoor gear retailer deploys tougher encryption for card transactions

Cabela's is shoring up credit and charge card transaction security with a new Point-to-Point Encryption solution from Ingenico Group. The technology, which is being deployed to all Cabela's locations in the U.S. and Canada, can be deployed remotely which allows customers to get the security layer in faster and cheaper.

The Ingenico technology features ISC Touch 250 smart terminals that provide upsell and cross sell abilities as well, such as digital ads and videos, and gift card promotions.

"Cabela's is focused on providing customers with legendary customer service and a great in-store experience, whether that's on the retail floor or at the point of sale," said Paul Stone, Cabela's chief retail officer, in an announcement. "We decided that implementing point-to-point encryption would be a tremendous benefit to our business and to our customers. Ingenico Group's ability to remotely upgrade its terminal keys via Offline RKI made this process considerably easier for Cabela’s and our store managers with minimal disruption to our business."
