July 27, 2015

Amazon is reportedly once again expanding its retail footprint, this time with a Silicon Valley-based drive-thru grocery store, according to the Silicon Valley Business Journal, which cites unnamed sources familiar with the plan.

Shoppers will order online and then set a drive thru pickup time, stated the report.

“We are seeing the emergence of the next generation of the food distribution system,” Bill Bishop, chief architect at Brick Meets Click, a retail and e-commerce consulting firm, told the Journal.

The reported location is 777 Sunnyvale Saratoga Road, Sunnyvale, according to the Journal, which cited real estate project paperwork for the construction of an 11,600-square-foot building. Amazon is not cited in the paperwork and did not respond to a media inquiry on the project, according to the Journal.
