Retail hours for Christmas Eve aim to provide late shoppers a reprieve

The retail segment is hoping more than a few procrastinators will be out and about Christmas Eve finishing up holiday shopping and expanding hours to accommodate the last-minute consumer rush.

Walmart will be open until 8 p.m. and Target will keep its doors open til 11 p.m. on Christmas Eve. According to a CBS Money Watch report Target is also cutting prices in the last few weeks of the holiday shopping season, reducing prices on toys 1.3 percent more than Walmart and 5.2 percent cheaper than Amazon's Black Friday pricing, according to a Bloomberg Intelligence report.

The move to keep doors open later is likely in direct response to the statistic that nine out of 10 consumers are doing some last-minute shopping, notes the CBSreport, and six of 10 consumers are hitting brick-and-mortar locations to ensure delivery.

While electronics retailer Best Buy is closing its doors at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve, it is expanding hours in days prior, to 11 p.m. on the three days before Christmas Eve.

Clothing and home store retailer Kohl’s is open 24 hours a day for this final week leading up to Christmas and will close its doors at 6 p.m. Christmas Eve. Toys ‘R’ Us is also now open 24 hours a day and will close at 9 p.m. Christmas Eve.
