Depending on the region, U.S. consumers are either most excited to get back into retail environments while others are admittedly nervous about the prospect.

The most excited, according to a TruRating poll, are in New Jersey, Massachusetts and California. The most nervous are in Connecticut, North Carolina and Washington, D.C., according to a press release on the poll findings.

In terms of shopping channels, 40% plan to shop online more following lock downs due to the COVID-19 pandemic, and shopping baskets now contain up to 40% more items as consumers return to normal shopping behavior.

The poll of 17,000 customers states 75% of American consumers are eager to hit brick-and-mortar retailers.

"The data is good news for retail and hospitality, sectors hit especially hard by the pandemic. Making customers feel safe will be paramount to ensuring that they continue to shop, eat out and travel in the coming month. It's amazing to see consumer confidence so high, but the fact that many have increased their online shopping habits suggests the retail landscape will continue to evolve as a result of COVID," said Georgina Nelson, CEO and founder of TruRating, in the release.
