Study: Tablets falling out of favor

Tablet shipments have been on a steady decline, while tablet trade-ins are growing.

May 28, 2015

More than one quarter of respondents (27 percent) indicated in a recent ecoATM study that they use their tablets less than they anticipated when initially purchased. The ecoATM study saw tablet trade-ins more than double from Q1 2014 to Q1 2015.

The study also found that:

  • 26 percent reported using their device less than three hours per week.
  • 8 percent of tablet owners said they no longer used their tablet.
  • Utility was a primary reason why tablet usage may be declining.
  • 60 percent preferred using a laptop instead of a tablet.
  • 26 percent said their smartphone does everything they need.
  • 7 percent indicated that their tablet is broken.
