Target adds Starbucks to drive-up options

Target shoppers can now order their favorite Starbucks order and grab it while picking up their merchandise at a Target drive-up location.

The car side delivery is being rolled out nationwide, according to a Target press release.

The news comes just about 18 months after Target announced it would be expanding the drive-up order process to include Starbucks orders.

The Starbucks order process begins after a Target customer places a drive up order and receives the notification that items are ready for pickup. The Target app then sends a prompt for ordering Starbucks. A Target team member then delivers the guest's items along with the Starbucks order.

The national rollout, starting this summer, follows a successful pilot program. The service is scheduled to be available at all 1,700 Target stores that are home to Starbucks cafes by October.

"Our guests have long told us Drive Up is a game-changer, adding convenience to their daily life, especially when they're short on time," Mark Schindele, chief stores officer, Target, said in the release. "We've continued listening to our guests, who've told us overwhelmingly that Drive Up with Starbucks would bring even more ease and joy to every Target run. This one-of-a-kind service — available only at Target — is the latest example of how we're innovating every day to meet the needs of our guests."

Target and Starbucks have had a 20-year-plus partnership.

"Starbucks has a long history of adapting and innovating how we serve our customers, meeting them where they are," Mark Ring, senior VP, U.S. licensed stores, Starbucks Canada and Siren Retail, which includes U.S. Starbucks Reserve and Roastery locations, said in the release. "Offering the Starbucks Experience to the Target Drive Up guest is a great example of two iconic brands creating a joyful moment in a way that Starbucks and Target are uniquely positioned to do together."

Minneapolis-based Target has nearly 2,000 stores and an e-commerce site Target.com. Starbucks Coffee Co. operates more than 36,000 stores worldwide.
