According to WJR.net, Target and Best Buy have amended political spending policies following controversies surrounding the 2010 election campaign.
Both companies’ websites have the new policies listed, which say that proposed political donations must be in line with the companies' core values and reviewed by internal committees with diverse viewpoints.
Target, which is based in Minneapolis, angered customers, employees and community groups last year for donating to a Republican Minnesota gubernatorial candidate who opposed same-sex marriage and greater legal protections for gays and lesbians. Best Buy also contributed to MN Forward, the conservative political action group.
Best Buy said it will assemble a committee to review political contributions, taking into consideration the interests of employees, customers and the company's “core values.”
