Target is expanding its beta 1 percent back loyalty program to more U.S. markets, including Denver, Kansas City and Phoenix.
The program, initially called Target Red when it launched last March, is now called Target Circle and debuted in the Dallas-Fort Worth region, according to a Tech Crunch report.
The program is designed to get customers to return to stores, especially consumers not signed up for Target's store card, called The REDcard, which returns 5 percent at checkout and is used by about 24 percent of Target shoppers.
REDcard users who join Circle will continue to receive benefits from the store card as well, according to the report. Target told Tech Crunch the Circle expansion is due to the successful beta testing and that "millions of customer transactions" have run since launch.
