Target is planning to deploy a point-based store employee attendance tracking system as part of its strategy to boost store operations and customer experience.

The system, projected to launch in September, will track unexcused lateness and absences, according to a Business Insider report that also stated the retailer is moving to a unified scheduling app for both employees and store managers.

Employees will get a quarter of a point for starting work more than eight minutes late, one point for missing a shift without approval of management and three points for missing a shift without notifying their manager.

When an employee has accrued three points there will be a meeting with a manager, and at three points there is a counseling session. If an employee accrues nine points they will get a final warning and will be let go when they reach 12 points.
