Target store chief veteran gets the ax

The corporate reshuffling at Target continues with another legacy leader taking leave.

January 5, 2016

Target has canned a 30-year company leader as the retailer continues an executive reshuffle.

Tina Tyler, whose most recent position was chief store officer, was fired Monday, according to news reports, ending a 30-year career. The firing comes less than a year after the resignation of another long-time company leader, Chief Merchant Kathee Tesija. Tesija is still serving in a corporate advisor role at this time, according to reports.

The leadership changes under Chief Executive Officer Brian Cornell have more to do with ridding prior leadership’s executives than with job performance, states a Nasdaq report, which claims the retailer’s goal is to regain Target’s prominence in fashion, home goods and drive a stronger urban center strategy.

Cornell took the reins a few months after former CEO Gregg Steinhafel left the company in May 2014. Since he came on board Cornell has hired on a new top tech leader as well as finance leader and established a new chief operations role to spearhead merchandising and supply chain.
