Retailers in Tennessee, Arkansas and Alabama are most likely shoring up security more than competitors in New York, California and Florida given those three states are the top three, respectively, when it comes to Black Friday assault and fighting incidents.
A ranking provided by Estately.com reveals a top 10 list of where the most physical altercations take place on the biggest shopping day of the year. Right behind Alabama comes Louisiana, Missouri, West Virginia, Oklahoma, Indiana, Kansas and South Carolina. Maine had the fewest, averaging 66.9 incidents per 100,000 residents.
The report also denotes top states in terms of Black Friday shopping exuberance and in more than a few cases the states with some of the high numbers assault reports are also tops in terms of shoppers’ enthusiasm for Black Friday shopping. Tennessee is tops in shopper enthusiasm, followed by Alaska in second place and New Mexico in third.
"Enthusiasm for abandoning one’s family to participate in premature shopping is not a universal interest in America. According to Facebook user data, fewer than 2 percent of users express any interest in Black Friday sales in California and Hawaii, while over 10 percent of users in West Virginia and Kentucky do," states the report.
