U.K. High Street retailer M&S (Mark & Spencer) is partnering with payments provider Ingenico Group to launch a payment service encompassing all the retailer's tough points and digital channels.

The strategy, according to a press release, is in response to changing consumer expectations and the need to deliver on the omnichannel promise given digital retail channels.

"With consumer behavior dramatically evolving — thanks to more and more complex omnichannel journeys encompassing in-store, online, mobility, and self-service — merchants need to provide simple, efficient and friction-less payment solutions to answer consumer demands, without compromising the speed of service speed, time to market or security," stated a press release.

Ingenico's payment platform allows customers to pay when and where they want and gives M&S a better understanding its customers.

"As part of our transformation efforts it's vital that we're working with the right partners who can help us improve both the online and in-store experience for our customers. Seamless payment is a crucial part of the customer journey so we're pleased to be working with industry-leaders, Ingenico. Introducing this technology will ultimately enable us to introduce further innovation as part of our digital-first strategy and we're looking forward to working together," said Paul Airey, head of retail technology at M&S, in the release.
