The race to pump up seasonal workforces is clearly on with mega retailer Walmart the latest to announce it’s hiring 60,000 to handle the holiday shopping wave.
It’s the same hiring strategy used last year but the goal is to ensure more registers are open during prime shopping times and boost department managers at 3,500 locations, according to a CBS Local report.
What will be different is the compensation tally this holiday season as the retailer boost its minimum wage from $7.25 an hour to $9 an hour for about 500,000 workers. As of the end of January Walmart employed 1.4 million U.S. workers.
