Walmart is aiming to grab consumer attention in the store and plans to launch in-store advertising via third-party ads on screens at self-checkout and TV area sales as well as demo stations providing product sampling.
Incorporating more advertising and marketing within a store is a quest to make more money, according to a CNBC report.
It comes as competitors are deploying digital screens in aisles and testing in-store demo opportunities, according to the report. Wholesaler Costco has long had product demo stations in aisles that let shoppers try products to spur product sales. In March Costco introduced a self-serve kiosk offering free product samples.
In March Walmart announced it was giving 90-day notice to hundreds of workers at U.S. fulfillment centers as the retail giant is cutting back and eliminating night and weekend workforces.
