Come this spring consumers will be able to create their own lipstick shade right at home, courtesy of an innovative system from Yves St. Laurent.

The Perso Smart Skincare system debuted as a prototype last year, according to an Endgadget report, and is now called Rouge Sur Mesure. It was developed as part of parent company L'Oreal's smart skincare technology.

It's a handheld dispenser, with a price tag of $299, that creates a new lipstick shade each time it's used.

An AI-based system is in play which can create "thousands" of YSL's Velvet Cream Matte Finish lipstick, according to the news report. Users, via an app, can choose shade and use a color wheel to define the hue.

Once customized, the system doles out a single lip covering portion.
