Zytronic teams with Bandai Namco on AR 'fairy kitchen' experience

Zytronic recently partnered with Bandai Namco Amusements Inc. to craft an interactive augmented reality 'fairy kitchen' at the Hachikawa Takashimaya S.C. mall in Singapore.

This experience, called 'Hungry Kitchen' allows children to create their own virtual dishes with fairies using Zytronic touch sensors and controllers, according to a press release.

With the Hungry Kitchen can virtually cut foods on aboard, mix it together and serve it.  Zytronic deployed touch sensors underneath the kitchen's chopping board. The board detects conductive material under all the plastic utensils in the kitchen and responds according.

The sensors also will accept palm movements, such as if a child decided to flatten a piece of virtual chicken on the board with their palm.

"For their special project, Bandai Namco Amusements Inc. had been seeking a projected capacitive touch sensor available in a unique design and in very small quantities. In addition, the chosen technology had to be capable of detecting a touch through a thick, opaque surface," Ian Crosby, vice president of sales and marketing, Zytronic, said in the release. "We designed a bespoke 15-inch multitouch foil to their precise specifications. As our touch sensors and controllers can also operate through various non-conductive materials such as glass, acrylics and even stone, it provided an ideal solution for Bandai Namco Amusements Inc."
