Amazon celebrating big anniversary in prime fashion

It's been 20 years since Amazon.com opened its doors and the e-tailer is using the big occasion to promote its top-tier membership service and one of its latest Prime consumer services.

Amazon is celebrating its 20th birthday in big fashion next week with an event that may surpass the likes of any Black Friday shopping bonanza in recent history. It's also using the momentous anniversary to promote one of its top-tier services.

The etailer is holding "Prime Day" July 15 and will offer consumers, who are Prime members, more deals than Black Friday, according to a company announcement. New deals will be cropping up even 10 minutes, kicking off at midnight. There will also be thousands of Lightning Deals, seven popular Deals of the Day, and Prime members get unlimited free shipping.

Consumers have the next week to sign up for a free trial of Prime, which will allow them access to all the deals. Check out this YouTube videoto see Amazon’s pitch.

"Prime Day is a one-day only event filled with more deals than Black Friday, exclusively for Prime members around the globe. Members tell us every day how much they love Prime and we will keep making it better," said Greg Greeley, VP Amazon Prime, in the announcement. "If you’re not already a Prime member, you’ll want to join so you don’t miss out on one of the biggest deals extravaganzas in the world."

Amazon is also holding a photo contest as part of the celebration in which photographers sharing their visual take on ‘prime living,’ have a chance to win a $10,000 gift card. Called #PrimeLiving the submitted photos let Prime members share how the service "helps enable some of their happy moments." It’s also aimed at giving Prime members a deeper look at Amazon’s Prime Photos storage offering.

"Now, Amazon is providing members a forum to share how Prime helps enable some of their happy moments. Did you save enough time today to take the dog for a long walk? Did you finish your shopping while lounging at the beach? Did you create a family film festival at home? Did you find the perfect playlist to create a summer dance party? After a long week of work, did you still arrive in the perfect outfit with just the right gift? Take a snap, capture the moment," according to the release.

Participating Prime Members sign into the service between July 6 and July 15 to share a photo on the contest page and Amazon will select and feature photos on its social channels through the week.
