IKEA advances expansion strategy in Canada

IKEA's latest distribution center has opened in Mississauga, Ontario.

April 8, 2016

As part of its operations expansion in Canada, IKEA has opened its latest distribution center in Mississauga, Ontario, creating 200 jobs for the local economy.

The 397,000-square-foot facility will fulfill orders from four Toronto area stores as well as online orders, according to an announcement.

The center will boost the retailer's logistics strategy by shortening lead times in product delivery.

"It is an exciting time for IKEA in Canada as we become even closer to our customers than ever before, this is the first step in truly transforming IKEA into a true multi-functional retailer," said Stefan Sjöstrand, president, IKEA Canada.

The new facility is part of IKEA's strategy to double its store locations in Canada over the next decade. It currently has 12 locations and plans to open its 13th location in Halifax, Nova Scotia, in late 2017.
