Amazon Prime members buy 100M items worldwide during Prime Day event

Amazon is celebrating its biggest global shopping event now that its annual Prime Day sales extravaganza has come to an end after 36 hours.

Sales beat out Amazon's last Cyber Monday and Black Friday and even last year's Prime Day.

More than 100 million product were bought worldwide, according to a press release, and Whole Foods Market shoppers saved "millions," with organic strawberries winning out as the top seller.

Top purchased Amazon devices were the Fire TV Stick with Alexa Voice Remote and the Echo Dot.It was the biggest sales day for smart home devices in Amazon history.

Small and medium-sized businesses selling on Amazon far exceeded $1 billion in sales.
