EA Sports to open retail stores

June 14, 2011

According to Gamasutra, sports video game developer EA Sports will open a chain of retail stores for its line of sports games and related merchandise.

The first shop is expected to open this fall in North Carolina at the Charlotte/Douglas International Airport. The shops will feature playable game demo kiosks, as well as the video games and items such as sports jerseys, EA-branded squeeze bottles and more.

"As pervasive as digital is, there’s still an offline component to acquiring new customers that remains important,” said Chris Erb, VP of brand marketing at EA Sports.

The company plans to open three stores within the next year.
