Grocery shoppers jumping online more than ever, reveals report

March 10, 2017

One in three grocery shoppers will place online orders this year and nearly three quarters of shoppers will switch grocers if there is a better shopping experience to be had.

The 2017 Grocery eCommerce Forecast, from Unata and in partnership with Brick Meets Click, polled 500 U.S. shoppers. The report notes the 'egrocery' is gaining greater consumer attention and 31 percent of shoppers are likely to order online, up from 19 percent last year.

Of those polled, 68 percent of shoppers who shopped online last year are 'somewhat' or 'very' likely to switch grocers to one with a better online shopping experience.

"We’ve known for a long time that shoppers wanted to do some grocery shopping from home and now we have more specifics on what else they're looking for from that experience. Now's the time to get on this," said Bill Bishop, chief architect at Brick Meets Click, in a press release.
