In-flight merchandising menu might bring shopping to the skies

The Denver Post: Air passengers soon could shop, reserve theater and theme-park tickets, and purchase vouchers for taxis and trains — all from their seats.

Airlines, faced with what experts say is the industry's toughest economic time yet, are looking at reaping billions of new dollars annually by expanding retail technology already on many jets.

About half of the 20 U.S. airlines are talking with GuestLogix Inc. about whether to offer by Christmas items from the new merchandising menu, said Brett Proud, GuestLogix's executive vice president of onboard merchandising.
