Kroger debuts mobile pay app, rewards debit card

February 13, 2019

Kroger is officially announcing Kroger Pay, a smartphone app that combines loyalty card and payment information and will speed checkout at the point of sale.

Kroger Pay initially debuted in the Columbus, Ohio region and will now expand to 10 more markets this spring before going nationwide later this year.

The Cincinnati-based supermarket chain also announced the launch of a Kroger Rewards debit card, which connects to customer checking accounts and offers bonus points for fuel purchases and discounts for Our Brands purchases, according to a press release. The rewards card gives double points for purchases through Kroger Pay.

"Kroger is redefining the customer experience by creating innovative ways to pay at our stores and online," said Gary Millerchip, CEO of Kroger Personal Finance and corporate strategy integration lead, in the relesae.

The app gives customers a single-use QR code after they enter a PIN number or biometric information.

Kroger Pay is available for download to smartphones running on the iOS or Android platform.

The Kroger Rewards debit card will launch in Columbus, Ohio and in Colorado at King Soopers and City Market stores, before going nationwide by spring.
