One of New York City’s Times Square retail icons closed its doors this week, with children and adults alike not feeling very jolly about the prospect of never again riding the 60-foot indoor Toys "R" Us Ferris wheel.
Also highly missed will be the 20-foot animated T-Rex and the life-size Barbie doll house.
The shuttering comes just months after another New York toy retailer, FAO Schwarz, took the same route with its Manhattan storefront, according to the New York Post.
According to the Post more than a few fans stopped by the store, which had been open for 14 years, this week to create one last memory for themselves and their children. Reportedly the company plans to open a new flagship store in Manhattan, but no timeframe has been established.
"It's a one-in-a-million type of place," Janet Roman, of Berlin, Connecticut, told the Associated Press.
According to the New York Times the store’s lease is up in January and the company opted to close the store and save the cost of rent, about $42 million a year.
