Microsoft has announced that it will open 500 mini-stores within existing Best Buy locations in the U.S., selling Windows-based tablets, computers and other Microsoft-exclusive products, according to a Reuters report.
The new store-within-a-store approach represents Microsoft's effort to revitalize sales of its flagship operating system and other devices by offering "a large-scale, hands-on customer experience" of Microsoft products, said Tami Reller, head of marketing at the Microsoft Windows unit.
Microsoft said on Thursday the initiative would add more than 1,200 Microsoft-trained Best Buy sales associates to assist customers.
