NCR unveils first hybrid laser and imaging bi-optic scanner

March 16, 2011

NCR Corp., a global technology company offering assisted- and self-service solutions, recently announced that it is launching the world’s first hybrid laser and imaging technology bi-optic scanner,  which enables retailers to scan mobile and 2D bar codes at the point of sale. The scanner was showcased at the Retail Business Technology Expo March 16-17 in London.

The scanner will allow consumers to redeem digital coupons or collect digital loyalty points using their mobile phones at self-checkout or assisted checkout.

“Today’s consumers are on-the-go and mobile devices are an essential part of their daily lives,” said John Curnow, NCR’s director of retail and hospitality in Northern Europe. “The innovations enabled by this unique hybrid scanner are another example of NCR’s work to help retailers break silos between physical and digital channels and deliver the relevant and highly personalized offers that consumers prefer.”

NCR is based in Duluth, Ga.
