Home goods retailer Pier 1 Imports expects to close 57 stores in this fiscal year.
The figure represents an increase of 12 closures from an initial estimate earlier this year, according to a USA Today report.
"We are in active discussions with our landlords," interim CEO Cheryl Bachelder said during the retailer’s recent earnings call, according to the report. "Where we have not seen landlord participation, we have begun our store closing program as we said we would."
Pier 1 operates nearly 1,000 U.S. and Canada stores.
