Same-day shipping wars begin

August 8, 2012

EBay is putting Amazon on notice. The online auction site is testing same-day retail delivery, a movethat Amazon made a few weeks ago.

Ebay's service — eBay Now — is in beta for residents of San Francisco only, according to PC World, which reported that users can order products via iPhone apps from retailers such as Macy's, Target and Best Buy, and receive them the same day.

The service is only available for purchases higher than $25; plus there's a $5-delivery fee. Beta testers, however, get a $15 credit on their first order, and free shipping on their first three purchases.

Amazon's same-day shipping is available in 10 cities and costs about $9 per order.
