Sophisticated apps proving a win for retailers

September 15, 2016

Putting some effort into the mobile app can pay off, as a new study reveals transaction boosts of more than 50 percent.

A new Criteo report states "sophisticated" apps are generating up to 54 percent of transactions, a 7 percent spike from 2015, according to Mobile Commerce Daily.

The H1 2016 State of Mobile Commerce Report illustrates a connection between savvy apps and high consumer spend. The report indicates that apps boast potential to convert three times as many shoppers, compared to an ecommerce presence, according to the news report.

"The biggest takeaways for retailers are that smartphones are now the dominant mobile device everywhere in the world, and mobile apps are grabbing an ever-growing share of online purchases," Gilles Giudicelli, head of research at Criteo, told Mobile Commerce Daily. "Consumers are browsing and buying on smartphones and apps more than ever — leaving desktop shopping in the dust — and retailers need to focus their efforts there to continue to drive conversions."
