Study: Automated prescription kiosk improves pickup rates

December 18, 2020

A University of California San Diego and UC Irvine study found that patients using an automated workplace kiosk had better prescription pickup rates than those who picked up prescriptions at traditional pharmacies, according to a medicalxpress.com report.

Participants in the study were San Diego's Sharp Memorial Hospital employees with the option to use a kiosk at their workplace.

Patients could opt in to pick up their prescriptions at a 24/7 kiosk located at their workplace. Patients would order from the pharmacy as usual. Once the pharmacist filled the prescription, a technician delivered it to the kiosk. The patient would enter a code on the kiosk which then dispensed the prescription.
