Target has decided to close the door on Shops. According to an article on startribune.com, the Minneapolis-based retailer said it has no plans to bring back the boutique-shop concept, instead focusing on its traditional design partnerships.
"At this time, we don't have plans for a future 'flight' of the Shops at Target, but we do have a number of collaborations planned for 2013 and beyond," said Target's spokeswoman Katie Boylan, in the article. "The Shops at Target is an example of how Target continues to explore new programs. We're always putting a unique and fresh spin on the concept of design collaborations with the goal of bringing our guests compelling assortments at great prices."
While Target's ups and downs with its Shops concept provided news fodder, some analysts suspect Shops didn't make much of an impact with consumers.
"I never really heard much about it," said retail consultant Doug Stephens, in the article. "I suspect it was not much of a showstopper."
