Walmart is redoing its in-store design approach with an airport terminal design in mind.

The retailer is tapping bold dimensional signs in its updated store layout strategy and plans to have it in 200 stores by early 2021, according to a New York Post report.

The revamped signage approach is aimed at better serving customers using a mobile device.

"We were inspired by airport wayfinding systems as best-in-class examples of how to navigate large groups of people," Janey Whiteside, executive vice president and chief customer officer at Walmart's US division, wrote in a corporate blog, according to the news report.

The signage will incorporate the retailer's app design and stores will offer a colorful directory to drive app downloads by in-store shoppers.
