Amazon takes top rank in early holiday consumer spending.
December 22, 2015
The winner in the first half of the online shopping holiday season, Nov. 1 through Dec. 6, is ecommerce giant Amazon, which grabbed 39.3 percent of online consumer spending, just a smidgen more than last year's 37.9.
Research firm Slice, which provided the market activity data, states Amazon's market grip is equal to combined Web sales of 21 other retailers and that list includes Walmart, Target, Best Buy, Costco, Macy’s and Home Depot, according to a Bloomberg report.
Amazon’s success, according to Slice, reflects Amazon’s strategies are solid and strong.
"Jeff Bezos [Amazon CEO] was beaten up for a long time about the infrastructure investments he made and the drain on profitability it caused," Ken Cassar, VP of analytics solutions at Slice, told Bloomberg. "He is seeing the payoff on those investments."
