Boxed customers wanting lower shipping fees and bigger price breaks are going to have to pay as the e-commerce grocery site is deploying an annual membership program.
The strategy, called Boxed Up, according to a New York Post report, is a $49 fee which provide free shipping for orders as low as $19.99 as well as a 2-percent cash reward feature.
The news comes as both e-commerce players and brick-and-mortar retailers strive to attract more consumers who are expecting better and faster delivery options.
"Boxed Up is more like Amazon Prime than a Costco membership," Boxed Founder and CEO Chieh Huang told the Post.
