Retail infusion taking flight at SFO airport concourse

The customer experience will be very different for airport travelers taking flight from United Airlines T3 concourse thanks to more dining, retail and amenities.

November 17, 2015

The T3 concourse for United Airlines at the San Francisco International airport is the landing site of a retail makeover that promises to boost passenger services.

The terminal facility is undergoing a $253 million renovation boasting a 53,000-square-foot expansion, new retail concessions as well as more boarding gates and a consolidated central security checkpoint.

"Terminal 3 East is the latest expression of our vision for the guest experience at SFO," Airport Director John L. Martin told Travel Retail Business.

The airport has not yet released any information regarding eight retail, food and beverage vendors signed on to open in the renovated concourse. The concourse now offers free WiFi, 230 more power outlets for fliers and 200 USB outlets as well.

"This inviting, relaxing space features a fresh take on what we aim to deliver in all of our facilities — thoughtful passenger amenities, concessions representing the San Francisco Bay Area, inspiring public artwork, and environmentally-sustainable design," Martin stated.

The TRBreport states that new art pieces and lounge-style seating provide a relaxing and inspiring setting. The guest restrooms even feature private changing rooms.
