Sydney, Australia-based Ramp has announced what it calls the "world's first customer tracking and loyalty system," an RFID-based loyalty card that contains both a battery-assisted passive UHF Gen 2 RFID tag and a high-frequency 13.56MHz chip.
According to a press release:
The extremely cost effective CS203 UHF RFID reader is strategically placed in the ceiling at entry and other locations within the premises. When a customer carrying a "Track & Tap" card passes within range of a reader the tag is read and the location of the customer is tracked. The read range is generally between 10m and 15m - even while the card is in a purse/wallet.
The 13.56MHz chip is used to earn and spend loyalty points. The staff member or customer simply has to tap the card on a desktop reader attached to the POS to accrue or use points based on the dollar value of their transaction. Members can view their spending history and account details via the web.
