In a quest to reduce theft and keep a closer eye on checkout activity, Walmart Inc. is using a computer vision/surveillance technology across 1,000-plus stores.
The program, called Missed Scan Detection, according to a Business Insider report, features several different technology solutions including the use of cameras. The cameras are monitoring cashier checkout and self-checkout lines. The retailer hopes to decrease shrinkage as well as identify fraud and theft in real time.
