Amazon is reportedly testing scanners that can identify a human hand as a point-of-sale cashier option.
The test is being conducted at its New York offices, according to a New York Post report, using vending machines selling everything from food bars to device chargers. Anazon reportedly expects to debut the hand-scanning cashier technology at Whole Foods in the next few months.
Customers don't put their hands on any sort of screen with this technology, which is called "Orville." Instead, the system uses computer vision to capture the size and shape of the hand to process a payment to a customer's credit card.
