One of Amazon's newest electronic innovations proved to be its best seller among products costing above $100 during the Black Friday shopping event.

The holiday weekend, overall, proved lucrative for the global e-commerce company with its device sales tripling compared to a year ago. Its Amazon Fire TV streaming media player even bested that sales spike, with sales ending up six times higher than a year ago and its Fire tablet sales tripling compared to a year ago.

In fact the Thanksgiving/Black Friday sales period was the best ever, according to an Amazon announcement.

"We're excited that millions of customers will be opening new Amazon devices this holiday season. This has already been the biggest holiday shopping season for Amazon devices, and we’re energized by the year over year growth for all of our product categories,” Dave Limp, senior VP, Amazon Devices, stated in the announcement. "With a sub-$50 price point for one or $250 for a six-pack, we've reached a tipping point with Fire — it is our fastest-selling tablet ever. We've already built millions — and we’re ramping up production to build millions more."

The sales spikes were achieved despite some hardware unit challenges, according to a Business Insider report which cited a Wall Street Journal article revealing lower morale among employees and corporate strategy confusion regarding device and sales priorities. The Fire tablet is the fastest-selling Amazon tablet yet, states a Fortune report, which also noted hundreds of thousands of Amazon Kindle e-readers were sold during the sales timeframe.
