Cyber Monday biggest Amazon sales day ever

The Thanksgiving holiday weekend and Cyber Monday proved to be a huge sales boon for Amazon with Cyber Monday hitting the record books as the biggest shopping day in the retailer's history.

Consumers bought more than 18 million toys and 13 million fashion items on Black Friday and Cyber Monday, according to a press release.

Small and mid-size retailers housed on Amazon enjoyed more than a 20 percent sales spike on Black Friday compared to last year.

"Black Friday and Cyber Monday continue to break records on Amazon year over year, which tells us that customers love shopping for deals to kick off the holiday shopping season,” stated Jeff Wilke, CEO worldwide consumer, in the release.

The best-selling products included Amazon's voice assistant device Echo Dot, its Smart Plug device and former first lady Michelle Obama's tome, "Becoming."

Customers ordered more than 4 million toys and electronics on the Amazon mobile app on Black Friday.
