Walmart revamps Cyber Monday into Cyber Sunday

The world's biggest retailer jump starts the online shopping day of the year one day earlier and is offering quadruple the number of sales items.

November 23, 2015

First Black Friday became pre-Black Friday and now Cyber Monday is actually kicking off on Sunday.

At least within Walmart’s locations, according to a CNN report. The world's biggest retailer is also increasing its Cyber Monday specials four-fold, according to CEO Fernando Madeira.

The move to push Cyber Monday into starting on Sunday is not just all about extending the sales holiday, claims Madeira in an announcement.

"It can be exhausting for working parents and Millennials to stay up past midnight to shop online, only to wake up early the next day to get ready for work," Madeira said.

So consumers planning to spend Monday shopping can now kick off the savings starting at 8 p.m. ET on Nov. 29.

Walmart will put out 2,000 online-only specials — a hefty spike from last year's 500 deals, according to Fox News.

Walmart's Cyber Monday strategy change comes as retailers of all various sizes and industries are clearly revamping holiday shopping strategies, with several opting to not open on Thanksgiving and many others launching Black Friday deals in advance, from a week early to a few days early.
